“What triggers consumer adoption of CBDC”
(Website dnb.nl, 22 April 2021).

The Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank, DNB) conducted a market survey into the knowledge and adaptation of a possible digital euro. In this survey 3,293 people took part of which 2,522 completed all questions. The most important questions were about the future payment and savings landscape and therefore also about trust in the (current) banks and future CBDC.

Good and thorough research and reporting. However, the problem remains that many people want to stay far away from financial products. Most buyers of a house spend more time looking for the curtains than selecting the mortgage, unfortunately. In addition, it is already difficult for professionals to estimate what the CBDC could look like and what the reaction of competing products will be. Let alone that consumers, who find payment transactions like water from the tap, can provide a reliable picture of their future behavior.

So central banks; please continue the development of the CBDC and ensure that we get lower social costs in the payment system and that there are also alternatives.
