Europe shows again to be useful. Due to a decision of the European Council and changes to rules by regulators in Europe, banks and other financial institutions can open a current account for Ukrainian refugees much faster than usual. And if a refugee cannot open a current account in the Netherlands, the Dutch bank BNG- together with Worldline – has launched a prepaid card for the municipalities. This card can of course be reloaded by the municipality.
But to be fair, Buyproxy was in the Netherlands the first in the municipality of Raalte with a reloadable prepaid card solution for Ukrainian refugees. It would not surprise me that the Buyproxy solution has accelerated the BNG solution, because Buyproxy has been in the market for some time with payment solutions for “earmarked” money.
In any case, the Netherlands and especially the financial players are showing itself from the right side in this process. Much better than the bumbling with the implementation of sanctions in The Netherlands. Perhaps Europe should have helped us a little more by taking even more lead in the sanction regulation.
